Hi, I’m Cheryl Stephens.
I manage the Plain Language Research Group on LinkedIn in order to collect and share research from many other fields. In recent years, I have applied research findings to how I produce plain language materials for my clients.
I believe the research of neuroscience, neurolinguistics, and cognitive psychology improves our ability to delver plain language. This resilts from understanding human processes for reading, thinking, and decision-making. Since 2019, I have been speaking internationally about writing for the reader brain.
I started in plain language in 1989. In 1993, I founded what is now the Plain Language Association International. In 2011, I launched International Plain Language Day which is celebrated worldwide. I also built up the LinkedIn PLAIN group which now has over 20,000 members.
